Exciting news! SASO Boys is pleased to participate in the Town of Fairfield’s Community Impact Award, a new annual tradition dedicated to recognizing the volunteers whose time and commitment strengthen our community.
The award acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to service, with Gold recognition for 100+ hours, Silver for 75-99 hours and Bronze recognition for 50-74 hours. Their contributions reflect the very best of Fairfield—generosity, engagement, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Anthony Calabrese, Chief of Community Services/Director of Parks and Recreation, and Emily Larkin, Youth Services Social Worker for the Town of Fairfield. Their collaboration with SASO Girls and our organization has been instrumental in creating this meaningful youth recognition program.
SASO Criteria
- Recipient must be an active SASO member during the award year.
- A minimum of 30% of service hours must be served through SASO events that have been listed on the SASO website and offered to all members. A maximum of 70% of service hours can be with other community service organizations.
- All hours must be completed during the SASO membership year, June 1st through May 31st.
- For service hours completed through SASO, the volunteer’s participation must be on record with the SASO Membership VP. Make sure to record your hours by clicking on your name once signed in, clicking on volunteer hours, and then scroll down to the form which allows you to enter needed information. Also, verify that you've recorded all your volunteer activity by checking "View Your Hours". Important: If you do not report your participation after each event, SASO will not have a record of your service and will not be able to certify your hours.
- All non-SASO event hours must be verified by a supervising adult at the organization by submitting a signed Community Service Verification Form via email to the Volunteer Coordinator
- Private tutoring hours do not qualify. Tutoring through an organization, like Wakeman or the Fairfield Public Library, does qualify. Please check with SASO Volunteer Coordinator if you are uncertain.
How to Get Started
- Email your interest to the SASO Award Coordinator, Dawn Gitman (sasoboyspvsa@gmail.com)
- Include member’s name, birthdate and primary email address (this can be parent’s or boy’s.)
- The member is responsible for logging every volunteer hour and ensuring that every hour has been verified by either SASO or the outside organization.
- At the end of the SASO Membership year, May 31, the log will be verified by SASO and all members who meet all the criteria will be submitted to the Town for an award.
If you are interested in achieving this prestigious award, it is critical to plan your service hours at the beginning of the membership year, taking into account the time during the year when your schedule will have the most flexibility and taking advantage of summer and school breaks. Also, look for service opportunities that offer larger time blocks, such as Operation Hope Tag Sale, Challenger Game, CT Challenge or events that need weekly help such as Senior Center, Woofgang or Homes for the Brave Gardening.
